Who Are We?
ABOUT US
Why was In Living Memories created?
My name is Julie, and I live in Ashford, Kent, where I’ve spent most of my life. My career has taken me through a range of industries, from pulling pints in pubs in my younger years to leading teams of digital project professionals in the e-commerce space. I’ve always been a curious person, eager to understand the world around me and constantly asking how things work and how they might work better. That curiosity is what sparked the beginning of In Living Memories.
In my spare time, I often find myself wandering through cemeteries, pausing to read the names on headstones. Most inscriptions follow a familiar format: a name, dates of birth and death, and a short tribute. But I’ve always found myself wondering Who were they? What was their life like? What’s their story?
Unless someone lived a particularly public life, there’s usually no easy way to find those answers. And yet, I believe their stories deserve to be told and remembered.
That’s where In Living Memories began: with the idea that we could use modern technology to reconnect with the past. Through something as simple as a small engraved QR code placed on a headstone, memorial bench, or special location, we can help bring a life story to light, one that reveals not just the dates, but the essence of a person. Their joys and struggles, their milestones and memories, their family ties and personal passions, all captured in one place.
This platform isn’t just about tributes. It’s about full, rich life stories, created by loved ones and shared with family, friends, and even the curious public who, like me, feel drawn to know more.
For families, In Living Memories offers a space to reflect, remember, and reconnect. When I created my nan’s memorial, I found it to be a deeply cathartic experience. I gathered with my mum, my aunt, and my sister. We laid out old photos, swapped stories, remembered the music she loved, the parties she hosted, and the joy she brought to all of us. We unearthed details we never knew. It was a celebration not just of her life, but of how she lives on in all of us.
For the public, it offers a respectful window into lives once lived because every life has meaning, and every story deserves to be heard.
In Living Memories is dedicated to preserving those stories. To keeping memories alive, always.
