At In Living Memories, we know how important it is to keep the stories of your loved ones alive. That’s why we’ve made it simple—and gentle—to create, edit, and manage your online tributes, no matter your level of experience with technology. Here’s how you can honour those special memories, step by step.
Getting Started: Where to Find Your Memories
To begin, simply navigate to MY MEMORIES > MANAGE MY MEMORIES in the main navigation bar, or visit your Memory Bank.
Here, you’ll see a list of all the memories you’ve shared so far, each one ready to view, update, or cherish. Want to add a new tribute? Just click to create, and you’ll be guided through each gentle prompt.
Creating a New Tribute
Every tribute is unique, just like the person it celebrates. When you create a new memory, you’ll be invited to fill out a series of simple fields, each designed to help you capture the story in your own words and images.
What to include:
Don’t feel pressured to write a novel or find the “perfect” words. Sometimes, a simple memory or a favourite saying is all it takes to bring someone to life for others. Here are a few ideas for each section:
1. Full Name, Date of Birth & Date of Passing
-
Use the full name your loved one was known by.
-
Add their date of birth and passing (if you wish).
-
You might want to add a line about how you remember them—“Beloved mother and friend,” or “Always made the best Sunday roast.”
2. Profile Photo
-
Choose a favourite portrait or a photo that feels truly “them.”
-
Don’t worry if you don’t have a professional photo—candid shots often hold the most warmth.
3. The Story of…
-
Share a short story about your loved one’s life, passions, or quirks.
-
You could include milestones, favourite hobbies, or a funny memory.
-
If you’re stuck, start with: “What I’ll always remember is…” or “Every year on their birthday, we used to…”
4. Early Life Photo & Caption
-
An early photo is a beautiful way to show a different side of someone.
-
Add a caption—maybe a date, place, or a little anecdote about their childhood.
5. Family Life
-
Reflect on their role as a partner, parent, sibling, or friend.
-
Share a moment that captures family gatherings, traditions, or an inside joke.
6. Married Life, Children & Family Photos
-
Tell a story about their marriage or partnerships—how did they meet, or what made their bond special?
-
List children or grandchildren, and consider uploading group or family photos.
-
Captions can help bring photos to life (“On holiday in Devon, 1987”).
7. Work History
-
Highlight their career, even if it wasn’t what defined them.
-
Sometimes the best stories come from little moments—a coworker’s memory, a proud achievement, or even a favourite “work mug.”
8. Family Memories
-
This is your space for anything else—holidays, recipes, catchphrases, or funny tales.
-
Imagine you’re telling someone who never met them—what would you want them to know?
9. Farewell
-
A personal message or final thought.
-
It could be as simple as “Missed every day,” or as poetic as you’d like.
10. Songs
-
Share a song that reminds you of them, or one that played at a special moment.
Editing an Existing Tribute
Your memories—and the stories you share—can grow over time.
To update a tribute, just click “Edit” next to the memory you wish to update in your Memory Bank.
Add new stories, swap photos, or gently refine what you’ve already shared. There’s no rush, and no right or wrong way—your tribute is yours to shape, as and when you’re ready.
Gentle Reminders & Tips
-
Start small. You don’t need to fill in every field at once.
-
Ask family and friends for their favourite memories or photos—they may remember details you’ve forgotten.
-
Pause when you need to. Sometimes, it’s helpful to step away and return later with fresh memories.
-
Celebrate the little things. Even the smallest stories or quirks can mean the most.
